A newly pr graduate from the University of Texas at Austin, I was able to land a sweet position at GolinHarris in Dallas. Now as I dwindle my days away at my new schedule from 9 to 5, I wonder to myself, "what more could I do to build myself professional?" Yea, I keep up with blogs and new social media, such as social networking sites and twitter, but there has to be more that I can do. An obvious idea, which has eluded me all this time, was I should keep up with my own blog on my personal opinions of pr, articles I've read and anything in between that I think is worth sharing. It'll be a mix of the information I aggregate from other pr ranters, noise from the media and my own chime on it all.I decided I wanted to use this new forum to:
- work on and improve my writing
- share my thoughts and opinions on pr and
- have some fun!
Nearly every single pr blog that I keep up with or have run into has a strong focus on social media, marketing and writing, which being a pr professional it should be. However, I like to think of myself as a creative and visual person. From that, I want to bring my own aesthetic and creative insights to the typical drab pr world and make it a little more colorful and fun. So, what does that actually mean? Well, I have always been a strong believer that advertising and pr go hand in hand and have been a huge stickler for the slightest design work (i.e. color and placement of things). I want to bring more of branding into the conversation, along with things that are/can be visual aids to pr professionals, such as collateral, logo work, micro-sites, presentations, pitches, etc. Of course, social media and anything that I find funny and interesting!
Also, I want to use this blog to gauge my evolution from when I began in the pr industry, with all my opinions and thoughts, and see how they've changed in a few years when I'm a hotshot regional manager! One day, one day.
You go boy! We each have career blogs! How exciting is that!!! Let's keep in touch!
